Canadian clinical psychologist and „the most influential public intellectual of our time”, as The New York Times is quoted on the cover, Jordan Peterson has come out with a sequel to his 2018 hit, 12 Rules for Life. The subtitle of this new volume, 12 more rules for life has raised quite a few eyebrows, as critics of Peterson clamoured to voice their opinions that this is only a way for the author to further capitalise on his popularity. Fans of Jordan Peterson, however, are treated to not only life-coaching lessons from the author, but also a unique mix of autobiographical stories, and analyses of myths, legends and religious texts as well as pervasive contemporary phenomena.

During World War II there had been tens of thousands of Jewish people fleeing from the SS, who were been given new identities by resistance forces both in major cities and near neutral borders like that of France and Switzerland. These refugees shed their old names that could reveal their Jewish ancestry with the help of talented forgers like Eva, who escaped Paris with her mother, and who put her talent in the graphic arts to the use of producing fake documents for themselves and others. What she also did was to record the original names of the ones she saved, so that they do not get lost on the seas of time. When, as an old woman, decades later she comes across these records by accident, it falls on her to reunite the people she helped with their original identities.

A.J. Finn: The Woman in the Window
This 2018 best seller made A. J. Finn a household name among thriller fans across the United States. Although his reputation has been somewhat tarnished by the fact that he turned out to have fabricated most of his personal history teeming with personal tragedies, this did nothing to diminish the widespread popularity of his writing. The Woman in the Window draws heavily on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 classic Rear Window, but it also twists and turns upside down the well-known premise of someone stuck inside an apartment with nothing better to do than spying on their neighbours. Anna is the epitome of the unreliable narrator, whose perspective rapidly shifts our own, until we suddenly realize we need to question the past, present and future of the central character altogether.

Stephen King: If it Bleeds
The Outsider was hailed by the overwhelming majority of King’s fans as a long-awaited return to the master’s original story building and prose style. Now, in this volume containing four dark tales positioned somewhere between the short story and the novella genres, King continues the story of The Outsider in the titular piece, while building up entire worlds and rounded characters in the arc of a few pages in the other three stories.
